A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Northwest Mountain Bike Club Dawn to Dusk Open Social Cycle on December 18th last and helped to raise funds for our free counselling service. Mountain bikers started at 8.51am and cycled all through the day until 4.11pm. All in, €20,287 was raised for the event. The day was a success from start to finish….except for Kevin Egan being unable to attend due to an injury. Over the next month, Kevin continued to drum up support from his network and completed his own Dawn to Dusk 40th Birthday Cycle on the trails, clocking up over 100km on his birthday and securing donations of €15071 to contribute to the NWMTB event. On top of all the support from Kevin, donations were received from Atlantic Single Track, who laid the trails, in the tune of €500 and from Coillte, who supported by waiving the event fees and donating €1000.The entire crew were so welcoming, with Gerry Mooney even taking my own wannabe Mountain biking teen up onto the trails for an impromptu intro to biking! The coffee cart and music were in full flow for the entire day and even though I didn’t get on a bike myself, there was an unmistakable warmth about the place. The carpark was full, the trails were busy and the people came. If you get a chance to get involved with any of these guys, don’t think twice. Just do it!
